Maneka Gandhi challenged Sultanpur MP Ram Bhuwal Nishad in the High Court

Maneka Gandhi, Former BJP MP from Sultanpur Maneka Gandhi has filed a petition in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court challenging the election of Samajwadi Party MP Ram Bhuwal Nishad. The petition filed by senior advocate Prashant Singh Atal on behalf of Maneka Gandhi states that 12 cases are registered against Ram Bhuwal Nishad, but he has mentioned only 8 cases in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission. Maneka Gandhi has appealed to cancel the election of SP MP Ram Bhuwal Nishad through her petition. SP’s Nishad defeated sitting MP Maneka Gandhi from Sultanpur seat by a margin of 43174 votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were seen in a triangular contest.

The main allegation of Maneka Gandhi, who lost the parliamentary election, is that a total of 12 criminal cases are pending against MP Ram Bhuwal Nishad. Whereas he disclosed only 8 criminal cases while filling Form 26 at the beginning of the election process. She also alleges that not disclosing all the criminal cases is corrupt conduct. Which comes under the category of corrupt conduct under Section 100 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Maneka Gandhi has urged in the election petition that on this basis alone, the election of Sultanpur parliamentary constituency is voidable.
