Dan Newlin: Florida Attorney Donates $1 Million to Family of Trump Assassination Victim

During his acceptance speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention, former President Donald Trump thanked Florida attorney Dan Newlin for donating $1 million to the family of Corey Comperatore, a volunteer firefighter killed in the assassination attempt against Trump in Pennsylvania.

Comperatore was shot and killed while trying to shield his wife and two daughters from the gunfire at the Trump rally. Two other attendees, James Copenhaver and David Dutch, were also critically wounded but were reported to be in stable condition

Trump revealed that Newlin had called Trump’s campaign finance director, Meredith O’Rourke, early Sunday morning and said, “Tell the president, ‘Don’t worry about anything, I’ll take care of it.’ You can count on me to give the million dollars.”

Newlin, a 50-year-old personal injury attorney based in Orlando, has a history of supporting Trump’s campaigns. He donated $1 million to a Trump-aligned super PAC in 2023 and hosted a fundraiser at his home near Windermere in April 2024 that raised over $8 million for Trump’s presidential bid.

In addition to the $1 million donation to Comperatore’s family, Newlin also pledged to give $100,000 to any victim who was critically injured in the assassination attempt.

“I hope that this gesture will bring solace and support to the critically injured and surviving family members and their children,” Newlin said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Newlin, who has a daughter named Alexis, worked as a police officer and emergency medic before graduating from Florida State College of Law in 2000 and founding his personal injury law firm. He is known for his aggressive representation and record-setting verdicts, including a $24 million verdict for the family of a slain Orlando police officer and a $100 million verdict for a woman who sustained a serious brain injury.

Despite his past donations to Democratic candidates, Newlin’s political contributions have leaned more conservative in recent years, including $100,000 each to a Republican state senate campaign and a conservative PAC in 2023. He has cited immigration and border issues as reasons for his support of Trump.

Newlin’s million-dollar donation to the family of the Trump assassination victim is a significant gesture of support during a tragic event. His willingness to step up and provide financial assistance to the affected families has earned him praise from the former president and underscores his commitment to the Republican cause.
