Dalit voters will play a decisive role not only in the fight between Chandrashekhar and Mayawati but also in the UP by-elections

Last Updated on 30/07/2024 by wccexam Desk

By-elections are going to be held soon for 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. All the political parties related to UP are busy preparing for the by-elections.

Amidst the ongoing feud in the BJP, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already formed a team of 30 ministers and put them to work. Mutual fights are one thing but Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya definitely says one thing in most of his social media posts, ‘2017 has to be repeated in 2027… the lotus has bloomed, we have to make it bloom again.’

BJP and Congress are going to contest the elections with their respective alliances, but Chandrashekhar Azad and Mayawati have both announced to contest on their own – and the way opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has raised the issue of caste census in Parliament, it also gets automatically linked to the UP by-elections.

Preparation of Chandrashekhar Azad

Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan is saying, keeping in mind the national interest, our party did not field its candidates on all Lok Sabha seats, but Azad Samaj Party has decided to field its candidates in the by-elections being held in Uttar Pradesh… The state executive of Azad Samaj Party is making preparations… We will contest the 10 seats of Uttar Pradesh assembly by-elections very strongly.

On the issue of contesting elections with any political party, Bhim Army leader Chandrashekhar Azad denies any alliance with any political party and says, my alliance will be directly with the public.

The question arises that the reason for Chandrashekhar Azad contesting the election alone is that he himself does not want to form an alliance with any party or no party is ready to join hands with his Azad Samaj Party?

After reaching the parliament, it seems that Chandrashekhar’s self-confidence has increased. Otherwise, he wanted to form an alliance with the Samajwadi Party in the 2022 assembly elections, but Akhilesh Yadav could not fulfill his demand. When the talks broke down, Chandrashekhar Azad accused Akhilesh Yadav of insulting the Dalits, and reiterated that the share is greater than the population. Chandrashekhar Azad had also tried to form an alliance in the by-elections held before the Lok Sabha elections. He even reached out to RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary, but Akhilesh Yadav did not let him come close.

Akhilesh Yadav’s PDA formula has been successful in the Lok Sabha elections, and now Rahul Gandhi is also trying to move forward on the same formula, but Chandrashekhar Azad and Mayawati are going their separate ways.

Chandrashekhar Azad is also trying to take Dalits and Muslims along with him. Among Dalits too, Chandrashekhar Azad has started claiming himself to be following the principles of BSP founder Kanshi Ram and his political legacy. Chandrashekhar Azad alleges that Mayawati has abandoned Kanshi Ram’s principles because she is not concerned about the interests of Dalits.

And for this purpose, Chandrashekhar Azad has introduced a private member bill in the Lok Sabha, it is clear that after reaching the Parliament, Chandrashekhar has started taking every possible advantage of the opportunity. This bill is the Reservation Act for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes in Private Sector, 2024.

Chandrashekhar Azad’s bill demands reservation in the private sector, educational institutions and other such establishments which employ at least 20 people and the government has no financial interest in them. According to the stated purpose of the bill, the benefit of reservation currently available only for the public sector is to be extended to the private sector.

Whether or not the bill gets passed by Parliament is a different matter, but at least this will move the debate on reservation in the private sector forward – and this is a matter that no one will be able to oppose, no matter how much they are against Chandrashekhar Azad.

The law proposed by Chandrashekhar Azad states that the central government should encourage private sector entities to implement reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes through special concessions – and ensure availability of loans at low interest rates through nationalised banks.

Preparation of SP-Congress and BJP

This is Chandrashekhar Azad’s challenge and Mayawati has also come into action. As soon as the results of the Lok Sabha elections came, Mayawati again made her nephew Akash Anand the national coordinator of BSP and her successor. During the Lok Sabha elections, Mayawati had relieved Akash Anand of both the responsibilities considering him immature, but after Chandrashekhar Azad became the MP from Nagina, she quickly considered Akash Anand mature.

Now along with Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi also seem to be worried about Chandrashekhar Azad. That is why he raises the issue of caste census even during the discussion on the budget in Parliament.

Though Rahul Gandhi’s target is BJP, but on the pretext of budget he directly targets the vote bank. In Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said, I want to show a photo… Budget halwa is being distributed, not a single OBC, tribal, Dalit officer is visible in it… you are eating the country’s halwa, and the rest of the people are not getting halwa.

Later, Rahul Gandhi also wrote on social site X, I want to tell the BJP that we will make caste census a reality at any cost and provide justice to the deprived. Rahul Gandhi writes, when I raised the issue of caste census in Parliament, the Finance Minister laughed and ridiculed this serious issue.

In fact, after listening to Rahul Gandhi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was taken aback. Rahul said, 20 officers prepared the budget… we found out, I have their names. 20 people have done the work of distributing the country’s halwa… out of 90 percent people, there are only two… one minority and one OBC… and you did not even let them come in the photo.

Rahul Gandhi, who is fighting the opposition’s battle with the Samajwadi Party, while talking about the alliance has written, INDIA will bring out the X-Ray of the country. It is a different matter that the seat sharing for the by-elections in UP has not been finalized yet.

The miracle of Dalit vote bank has already been seen in the Lok Sabha elections, it will also be seen in the by-elections of UP – and the role of Dalit voter is not going to be limited only to Chandrashekhar and Mayawati, but Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi are also in the same circle.
