A major cyber outage on Friday caused widespread disruptions to emergency 911 services across the United States and non-emergency call centers, affecting various IT systems globally. The source of the outage is suspected to be a failure in CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity platform that offers solutions for Microsoft Windows.
Critical sectors such as airlines, healthcare, and emergency services experienced major interruptions. In the US, 911 services were affected as Microsoft faced a severe tech glitch. The problem was caused by a “defect found in a single content update for Windows” from the cybersecurity company CrowdStrik.
Thousands of JPMorgan Chase ATMs were down as well due to the CrowdStrike crash, and some teller stations also weren’t working[3]. The outage also took down a health booking system used by doctors in England, severely impacting healthcare operations.
In Australia, banks, telecom companies, media outlets, and airlines were notably affected. The London Stock Exchange experienced service disruptions, further highlighting the widespread impact of the outage. Major airlines including American Airlines, Delta, and United grounded all flights in the US, causing significant travel delays and cancellations

The CrowdStrike update caused global IT outages, inflicting havoc on businesses and services worldwide. The company’s problems follow a string of computer security incidents and service outages in recent years that have disrupted online services.
While the outages disrupted flights, banks, media outlets and companies across the world, there was no loss of connectivity and the situation was brought under control.
