CPM leader Sitaram Yechury’s treatment continues in AIIMS, admitted due to lung infection

Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, where he has been admitted due to lung infection. 72-year-old Yechury was admitted to the emergency ward of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on 19 August.

Immediately after admission, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where his treatment is going on. Sources said that a team of doctors is monitoring his condition. Currently, the treatment is showing positive effects and Yechury’s condition is stable.

Yechury was admitted to AIIMS for treatment of pneumonia-like infection. The hospital has not disclosed the exact nature of his illness. He had recently undergone cataract surgery.

Yechury is a veteran leader of the Left

Sitaram Yechury, one of the veteran leaders of the Left, is the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M). He has also been a member of the Politburo of CPI (M) since 1992. Earlier, he was a Rajya Sabha MP from West Bengal from 2005 to 2017. Yechury joined the Students Federation of India (SFI) in 1974 and a year later, he joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

He attended President’s Estate School, New Delhi and stood first at the all-India level in the Central Board of Secondary Education Higher Secondary Examination. Subsequently, he pursued a B.A. (Hons) in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and an M.A. in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), securing first division in both.
