Could the Rajendra Nagar accident have been averted? The student had complained about waterlogging three days before the incident

Protests are continuing after the death of three students due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. So far, seven people, including the owner and coordinator of the coaching centre, have been arrested. New revelations are constantly being made in the case. Now it has come to light that a student studying in the coaching centre had lodged a complaint with the PWD regarding waterlogging a few days before the accident.

Kanishka Tiwari, who is preparing for IAS at RAU’s IAS coaching centre, had lodged a complaint with the Delhi government’s PWD about waterlogging in the area three days before the incident (July 24). She also received a call from PWD officials who said that the complaint has been forwarded to the MCD.

Earlier, on June 26, UPSC aspirant Kishore Singh Kushwaha had complained to the Delhi government about operating classrooms in the basement of RAU’s IAS coaching without NOC. Kishore had made this complaint through the Public Grievances Portal. In the complaint, Kishore had also expressed the possibility of a major accident.

Not only this, on July 15 and July 22, he also sent a reminder in his complaint that this is an urgent issue and immediate action is needed on it. Kishore said, ‘I had complained about the basement on 26 June 2024. Through the Public Grievances Portal, I had told the Central Government and the State Government that libraries and coaching are being run in the basement in Old Rajendra Nagar and South Patel Nagar.’

The student said, ‘I had complained about the basement of RAU’s coaching centre because it seemed prone to accidents. The administration is completely responsible for such incidents. The government should take appropriate steps and take strict action against such operators.’

A total of seven arrests have been made so far

Let us tell you that the police has arrested 5 more people in the case of death of three students after water filled in the basement. Earlier, the owner and coordinator of the coaching center were also arrested. That is, a total of 7 arrests have been made in this case so far. The police has also arrested the driver of the vehicle (SUV) who passed by the main road. It is being said that the pressure increased due to the car leaving and water entered inside the building.
