Corruption in Haj Committee! AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi wrote a letter to the Union Minister, demanding a fair investigation

AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has written a letter to Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju regarding corruption in the Indian Haj Committee. Owaisi said, “It has come to my notice that some officials of the Haj Committee have serious allegations of misuse of power and corruption. In this regard, I have already provided a letter to the Minister of Minority Affairs, which also includes the names of the officials involved in these activities.”

Asaduddin Owaisi has made allegations against many top officials of the committee in his letter, which includes many points.

Delay in appointment of CEO: Some senior officials are deliberately delaying the appointment of the new CEO, while the notification of advertisement for this post has been issued on 03/11/2023 itself. It has also been alleged that senior officials are delaying the appointment so that they can continue to enjoy the benefits associated with their position, including travel to Saudi Arabia and giving Hajj tenders to their family and friends.

Corruption in building selection: It is also alleged that the senior officer influenced the appointment of the Building Inspection-cum-Selection Committee to appoint himself as its chairman. The committee is entrusted with the task of selecting as well as inspecting buildings in Mecca, Saudi Arabia for the Indian pilgrims for the 2024 Haj. The said officers, in connivance with other senior officers, selected substandard buildings, causing great inconvenience and trouble to the Haj pilgrims. It is also believed that this selection of substandard buildings gave these officers an opportunity to embezzle funds.

Wrongful Dismissal of Employees: The official associated with the committee has reportedly fired those employees who were working in the Haj Committee Mumbai office for 14 to 15 years and had expertise in their field. It is said that these employees were earning a salary between 30-35 thousand. Due to the dismissal of these important employees, a situation of mismanagement arose during Haj 2024.

Partiality: The senior officer is also accused of appointing his relatives in the Delhi office of the Haj Committee and giving them a huge amount (50-60 thousand) from the Haj Fund. Another senior officer is accused of helping one of his relatives to retain his job despite his dismissal from the Mumbai office of the Haj Committee. In fact, the said relative has been paid salary from the Haj Fund.

Fraud in transfer: The officer involved in corruption is also influencing his own transfer, which is evident from the fact that he has not been transferred from the Ministry of Minority Affairs for the last 8 years, which is against CSS rules.

Misutilisation of Funds: A senior official has also been accused of interfering in the transfer of HGO funds from the Haj Committee to the ministry funds, allowing it to be used for his personal expenses.
