Controversy erupted over the names of terrorists in the series ‘IC 814’, casting director said ‘we did complete research’

Director Anubhav Sinha has made films like ‘Mulk’, ‘Article 15’ and ‘Anek’ on social problems. His films were as much in discussion as they were controversial. Now Anubhav’s new project is once again in the circle of controversies.

Anubhav has directed Netflix’s web series ‘IC814’. While Anubhav is being praised for portraying real events in an authentic way and delivering an engaging show, on the other hand, controversy has also started over the show.

Controversy over Anubhav’s show, Mukesh Chhabra gave clarification
Many people are alleging that an attempt has been made to hide the identity of the real terrorists in ‘IC 814’, because these terrorists are seen using nicknames in the show. Their nicknames in the show are – Burger, Chief, Shankar and Bhola. People are opposing the show regarding this and have started posting on social media with the hashtag boycott Netflix-Bollywood.

Now ‘IC 814’ casting director Mukesh Chhabra has given clarification regarding the terrorists and their nicknames. He said that the terrorists had used nicknames and a lot of research has been done for the show.

Mukesh posted on the social media platform X and wrote, ‘I am reading a lot of tweets about the names of the hijackers. We have done proper research. They used to call each other by the same names. You can call them nicknames or fake names or whatever you want to call them.’ He further wrote, ‘Thank you all for giving love to the multi-starrer cast. Thank you very much to my team, and especially to Anubhav Sinha who showed faith in us and gave us the freedom to explore.’

Neelesh Mishra also told the truth
Earlier, famous writer-lyricist Neelesh Mishra had also spoken about this controversy. Neelesh, who has written one of the first books on Kandahar hijacking, said on social media about this controversy, ‘All the hijackers used fake names. They used to call each other and the passengers used to call them by these names during the entire hijacking.’

In December 1999, Indian Airlines flight number IC 814 was hijacked by a group of terrorists. The aircraft was taken to Kandahar, Afghanistan via various locations.

In the negotiations, the Indian government had to accept the demands of the terrorists in exchange for the lives of its passengers. One of these demands was to release 3 terrorists who were in Indian jails at that time, and since their release till date, they have been a major factor behind the terrorist incidents happening in India.
