Wayanad landslide, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday described the landslide in Kerala’s Wayanad district as a “horrific tragedy” on one scale that the state has never witnessed. He said the incident should be taken in a different light.
Rahul Gandhi made a big promise
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that he will raise this issue in Delhi and also with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, as this is a tragedy of a different level and different steps should be taken regarding it. He also promised that the Congress party will build more than 100 houses in Wayanad.

Gandhi was speaking to reporters after a meeting with district administration and panchayat officials, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior Congress leaders. The officials briefed him on the number of deaths and houses destroyed in the landslide incidents and their strategies for search and rescue of people.
Rahul took stock of the natural disaster
Rahul Gandhi had reached Wayanad a day earlier and took stock of the devastation caused by the landslide. He called it a “national disaster” and demanded an immediate comprehensive action plan to deal with it.
How many people have died so far?
The death toll in the landslide incidents in Wayanad district has reached 308, while 264 people have been injured. According to the state government data, 201 bodies have been recovered so far, including 82 women and 28 children. Apart from this, 130 body parts of various bodies have also been recovered.
