CM Yogi is active in Ayodhya, Akhilesh is also in action mode… What is BSP’s preparation for the UP by-election?

By-elections are to be held on 10 assembly seats in UP. The election schedule for the assembly by-elections has not been announced yet, but political activities have increased regarding it. After lagging behind the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the Lok Sabha elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now geared up to show its strength in the by-elections, while opposition parties are also holding a series of meetings. While brainstorming is going on over the names of candidates, some parties have also internally finalized some names for the seats. How far have the preparations of which party reached for the UP by-elections?

CM Yogi busy in solving the equations

After the Lok Sabha election results, the one seat in UP that was mentioned the most was the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, which also includes Ramnagari Ayodhya. On the lines of ‘Our defeat is being discussed more than your victory’, BJP’s defeat on this seat has become a topic of discussion. BJP wants to end this situation by sending a message from Ayodhya itself. The importance of Ayodhya’s Milkipur assembly seat for BJP can be gauged from the fact that in the last week, CM Yogi has visited Ramnagari twice and the responsibility of winning this seat is on CM Yogi’s shoulders.

CM Yogi also said during his recent Ayodhya visit, “Ayodhya should worry about its own honour and Hindu society should see who is worrying about them. Ayodhya is not a matter of victory for us but Ayodhya should ponder over the way our defeat was publicised.” In the meeting held to review the Lok Sabha election results, CM Yogi had also given the mantra to everyone to make united efforts to win all the seats in the by-elections.

Talking about the recently held Lok Sabha elections, BJP was lagging behind SP by seven thousand votes in Milkipur assembly constituency. To bridge this gap, the district in-charge minister Surya Pratap Shahi is also holding continuous meetings with the workers of Milkipur. BJP is also putting full force on Katehari assembly seat of Ambedkarnagar adjacent to Ayodhya. Here Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh has been made in-charge. If we look at the electoral equation, BJP has not won this seat since 1991. BJP is looking for a formula to make lotus bloom on this seat. At the same time, Lalji Verma, who was an MLA from this seat, is trying to get a ticket for his wife Shobhavati Verma or daughter Chhaya Verma from SP. Bhim Nishad is also claiming a ticket from SP.

Akhilesh busy reviewing seat-wise preparations

As soon as the monsoon session of Parliament ends, SP President Akhilesh Yadav is seen in action mode regarding the by-elections. Contenders are reaching Akhilesh to confirm their ticket in the by-elections to be held on 10 seats. It is almost certain that Awadhesh Prasad’s son will get the ticket from Ayodhya. According to sources, the party can field Lalji Verma’s daughter or wife from Ambedkar Nagar, Tej Pratap Yadav from Karhal, Irfan Solanki’s wife or mother from Sisamau and former MLA Haji Rizwan from Kundarki. SP can field former MP Qadir Rana from Meerapur assembly constituency. This seat was with Rashtriya Lok Dal in the alliance last time, which is now with BJP. SP can field a leader of Kurmi community from Phulpur assembly seat. SP lost this seat by only 2792 votes in the 2022 assembly elections.

BSP chief Mayawati is also in action

BSP, which usually keeps away from by-elections, is also preparing to contest by-elections this time. This will be the first time after 2012 that BSP is going to contest assembly by-elections. BSP chief Mayawati is also in action mode regarding this and in a meeting a day earlier, she called upon the leaders and workers to work together to increase the support base, calling BSP a party of the poor and the oppressed. BSP state president Vishwanath Pal, while talking to Aaj Tak, said that the names of Shivbaran Pasi from Phulpur and Deepak Tiwari from Majhwa seat are almost final. These two leaders have been made in-charges.

Congress is also ready for UP by-election

UP Congress is also preparing for the by-elections and is holding meetings. Congress may soon assign responsibility to senior leaders to prepare for the 10 by-election seats. If Congress sources are to be believed, the party is claiming 5 seats in the by-elections of 10 seats. SP is not ready to give more than two seats to Congress right now.
