The price of potatoes in Chhattisgarh is driving the common man crazy. Usually potatoes were available between 20 to 25 rupees. But suddenly its price has gone up to 45 to 50 rupees. The reason for this is a decision of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In view of the low arrival of potatoes, West Bengal has disrupted the supply of potatoes to other states.

Actually, hilly potatoes come to Chhattisgarh from West Bengal. On the other hand, the price of Gola and Pahadi potatoes coming from Uttar Pradesh is somewhat less. It is being sold at Rs 40 per kg. But its demand remains very low.

Every day, about 50 trucks of potatoes arrive in Chhattisgarh, that is, about 1000 to 1500 tons. But at this time half of this potato is reaching Chhattisgarh. Potato is considered the king of every vegetable. Usually in normal times, potato is sold at 5 to 10 rupees per kg in wholesale and 15 to 20 rupees per kg in the retail market. Many times, due to heavy arrival and high production, the price of potato in the retail market falls to 8 to 10 rupees per kg. After the season, the price of potato increases to 25 to 30 rupees per kg. But the price of potato rarely reaches 40 to 50 rupees. It is being said that the reason behind potato being expensive in Chhattisgarh is a decision of the West Bengal government.

Supply from West Bengal is low

According to traders, the biggest reason for the skyrocketing price of potatoes is that hilly potatoes come to most states of the country including Chhattisgarh from Bengal. For some time now, the West Bengal government has imposed a slight ban on the arrival of potatoes. The government wants that the supply should be done in its state first and then it should be sent outside. Due to which the price of potatoes has skyrocketed. The price in the wholesale market of Raipur is 30 to 32 rupees, while the price in the retail market has gone up to 50 rupees per kg.

Let us tell you, about 30 trucks of potatoes come to Raipur and other markets of the state from West Bengal every day. One truck contains 25 to 30 tonnes of potatoes. Similarly, about 20 trucks of Gola and Pahadi potatoes come from Uttar Pradesh every day. At present, only 10 trucks of potatoes are coming from Bengal. However, full supply of potatoes from Uttar Pradesh is continuing. Due to less arrival of potatoes from West Bengal, prices have increased. Wholesale Potato-Onion Traders Association President Ajay Agarwal said that due to less arrival of potatoes from West Bengal, prices have increased. Prices will decrease when the arrival becomes normal.
