Cloudburst causes flood in Uttarkashi, 105 people rescued, huge damage to property

Uttarkashi Flood, There was a sudden flood in Uttarkashi due to cloudburst on Thursday night. Due to which the water level of Yamuna also increased dangerously. Strong currents of water wreaked havoc in the six kilometer radius between Jankichatti and Yamunotri. Due to which there was chaos in the entire area. Madhyamaheshwar road was also closed due to landslide caused by cloudburst. Due to which 105 pilgrims and tourists are trapped. Who were evacuated safely by air. According to the information, three ponies and a motorcycle were washed away in Jankichatti due to sudden flood. The sudden heavy rain has also caused heavy damage to properties in the area.

Stranded people were airlifted

According to media reports, District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that all the 105 pilgrims stranded on the Madhyamaheshwar route have been successfully rescued in a rescue operation that lasted for five hours. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the district administration and led by Trans India and Himalayan Heli Services. The rescue team reached the spot via helicopter. After which it reached the trekkers at a place five kilometers below Madhyamaheshwar and took the stranded people to a safe place. At the same time, SDRF Commandant Manikant Mishra said that the people stranded near Gondar have also been safely evacuated. These people were rescued by a special team led by Inspector Anirudh Bhandari. A temporary helipad was also built here to speed up the rescue work.

There was a lot of damage to the temple complex in Yamunotri Dham

Heavy rains occurred on Thursday night at the origin of the Yamuna river. Due to which the temple complex in Yamunotri Dham has suffered a lot of damage. The heavy rains have also badly affected the committee’s office, kitchen and other things. However, there have been no casualties during this time. This has been confirmed by Purushottam Uniyal, President of the Priest Mahasabha. He has blamed the accumulation of debris, boulders and stones at the mouth of the Yamuna river for the damage to the temple complex.

The damage will be assessed after the road opens

Rawal Harish Semwal of Gangotri Dham said that the Ganges river is in spate and mild earthquake tremors were also felt late at night. Due to which there was an atmosphere of panic in the area for some time. According to the Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Office, the registration center near the Ram temple on the Jankichatti-Yamunotri pedestrian route has also been damaged. At the same time, the Yamunotri highway has also been closed at Ojri Dabarkot. Due to which government officials are not able to reach Yamunotri Dham from Barkot. There has been no loss of life during this time. Which has been confirmed by SDM Mukesh Chand Ramola, but there has been a lot of damage to the properties. He said that the damage will be assessed after the Ojri Dabarkot road opens. The Tehsildar has been sent with the revenue team to survey the area.
