China’s internet satellite launch leaves more than 300 KG of garbage in space, threat to satellites and space station in low Earth orbit

China launched its first batch of internet satellites on 6 August 2024 using the Long March 6A rocket. 18 satellites were launched. The purpose was to compete with Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites. But this launch created an uproar all over the world. Garbage fell on the earth. It spread in space. 300 pieces are spread in space.

All these pieces are spread in the lower Earth orbit. This has posed a threat to the satellites and space stations of countries around the world. But the US Space Command is keeping an eye on it. China had launched 18 flat panel Qianfan (Thousand Sails) or G60 into space from Long March 6A.

These were to be put in a polar orbit at an altitude of 800 km for Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology. Earlier, these were to be placed in 14 thousand LEO communication satellites. But now with this mission, China has created a threat for satellites around the world. Due to this, more than 300 pieces of garbage have been spread in space.

The garbage is moving at a speed of 7.5 km/sec

All these satellites and rocket bodies are floating together in the same direction in space. Out of these, 50 pieces are in a very dangerous orbit. Where they can pose a threat to satellites and space stations of other countries at any time. This garbage is flying at a speed of 7.5 kilometers per second.

The reason is the breakage of the upper part of the rocket

The US Space Force has said that this garbage has been created because the upper part of China’s Long March 6A rocket broke down in space. Due to which so much garbage has been created. However, it has been said that this does not pose any problem to any kind of human flight.

The accident also happened in November last year

Even before this, in November 2022, the upper part of the Long March 6A rocket broke. Due to which hundreds of pieces were spread in space. China had planned to launch 90 more satellites by the end of this year after this launch. In the first phase, there would be 36 satellites in polar orbit, 36 in each launch. China plans to launch 14 thousand internet satellites.
