New Delhi: Niti Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) BVR Subramaniam said on Saturday that 10 states and union territories including Bihar, Kerala did not attend the Governing Council meeting. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors and other representatives of 26 states and union territories attended the meeting. In the meeting, there was an in-depth discussion on the idea of ​​bringing poverty in villages to zero level i.e. completely eliminating it.

Subramanian said that apart from Bihar and Kerala, those who did not attend the meeting include Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Puducherry. Subramanian said, ‘This meeting was to discuss how the development of the states can be taken forward and how they can contribute to it. If they did not attend, it is their loss.’

CM Mamta Banerjee suddenly left the meeting

Regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who walked out of the meeting, the CEO said that she had requested to speak before lunch, which was accepted. However, according to the names of the states, her turn would have come in the afternoon. Subramanian said that when the Chief Minister’s time was over, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh simply tapped the mic. At this, she stopped speaking and walked out. However, officials of the West Bengal government attended the meeting.

Political stir intensifies due to Nitish Kumar’s absence

Regarding Bihar, he said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar could not attend the meeting as he was busy with the assembly session in the state. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address at the meeting, Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Beri said he wants states to compete for FDI (foreign direct investment) so that investment can reach all states, especially those that are less successful.

‘States should spend more on strengthening districts’

The idea of ​​population management and bringing poverty to zero level i.e. eliminating it completely was also discussed in the meeting. According to Subramaniam, the Prime Minister wants the states to spend more on strengthening the districts so that they can accelerate development. The Prime Minister suggested eliminating poverty on a priority basis for a developed India.

According to the CEO of Niti Aayog, he said, “We need to tackle poverty on an individual basis.” According to Subramanian, he has said that after the assessment, the villages can be declared ‘poverty free’ villages.
