According to party sources, SP and Congress will field joint candidates on 10 seats in the UP by-elections. In this regard, Congress has also called a meeting of district presidents on July 21. It is believed that SP can contest by-elections on 7 seats and Congress on 3 seats.

The by-elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh are also being considered as a litmus test for the Bharatiya Janata Party and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
