Jharkhand News: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren and 10 other leaders of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance on Monday took oath as ministers in the Hemant Soren government in the state. Champai Soren resigned from the post of Chief Minister on July 3, a day before JMM working president Hemant Soren was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of the state on July 4.

Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office and secrecy to 11 leaders at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and other senior leaders of the JMM-led alliance and government officials.

Baidyanath got a place in the cabinet

The new faces in the 12-member cabinet, including the chief minister, include Congress’s Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari, Mahagama MLA Deepika Pandey Singh and JMM’s Latehar MLA Baidyanath Ram. Ram’s name was dropped from the list of ministers in the state’s previous Champai Soren cabinet at the last moment, which he termed as an “insult”.

Those who have been retained as ministers include Congress’ Rameshwar Oraon and Banna Gupta, besides JMM’s Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, Hafizul Hasan, Deepak Birua and Baby Devi and Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) Satyanand Bhokta. Earlier in the day, the Hemant Soren-led government won the trust vote in the assembly amid a walkout by opposition members.

Hemant Soren was released from jail on June 28 after the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. Soren resigned as chief minister shortly before his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31.
