CBI filed first chargesheet in NEET paper leak case, names 13 accused

CBI has filed the first chargesheet in the NEET paper leak case. Chargesheet has been filed against 13 accused. CBI had arrested many people from Patna, Hazaribagh in this case. CBI’s investigation revealed that the paper was leaked as per a plan. The paper was stolen from NTA’s box from a school in Hazaribagh.

The CBI on August 1 filed its first chargesheet against 13 accused — Nitish Kumar, Amit Anand, Sikandar Yadavendu, Ashutosh Kumar-1, Roshan Kumar, Manish Prakash, Ashutosh Kumar-2, Akhilesh Kumar, Awadhesh Kumar, Anurag Yadav, Abhishek Kumar, Shivanandan Kumar and Ayush Raj — under sections 120-B, 201, 409, 380, 411, 420 and 109 of the IPC and its substantive offences.

It is worth noting that the case was initially registered on May 5 at Shastri Nagar Police Station, Patna and was later transferred to the CBI on June 23, 2024. The CBI has used forensic techniques, artificial intelligence techniques, CCTV footage, tower location analysis etc. to gather evidence against the accused. The CBI is conducting further investigation against other accused/suspects and other aspects of the case.

Several other accused are already in police/judicial custody. Supplementary charge sheets will be filed as soon as further investigation against these accused/suspects is completed. The CBI has so far arrested 40 accused in the case, of which 15 have been arrested by Bihar Police and conducted searches at 58 locations.

However, the registration process for counselling will begin in the first week of August. National Medical Commission (NMC) Secretary Dr. B. Srinivas said that about 1.10 lakh seats in 710 medical colleges across the country will be filled through counselling. Apart from nursing seats and AYUSH seats, counselling will also be held for 21 thousand BDS seats.
