Can anyone get the bulldozer election symbol? Elections cannot be fought on these symbols

Bulldozers are in the news a lot these days in India. From the Supreme Court to political rhetoric, the word bulldozer is being used a lot. Actually, earlier Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had taunted Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav by saying that not everyone can have a bulldozer in their hands. On this, Akhilesh Yadav said that if you and your bulldozer are so successful, then form a separate party and contest elections with the ‘bulldozer’ election symbol. In such a situation, the question is, can anyone really contest elections on the bulldozer election symbol? So let’s know the story of the election symbol…

Can bulldozer be an election symbol?

Before knowing whether bulldozers can be used as election symbol or not, let us tell you what is the method of choosing election symbol. Actually, Election Commission has included many things in its symbol list and candidates contesting elections can contest election on those symbols. Many of these election symbols are reserved by political parties, which cannot be given to any other party or independent candidate. For example, no one can contest election with Bahujan Samaj Party’s election symbol elephant.

But, when it comes to regional parties, in that case their election symbol is not given to other candidates in their region. Suppose a party, whose election symbol is balloon and it is contesting elections in Rajasthan, then the balloon election symbol will not be given to any independent candidate in Rajasthan. However, this election symbol can be given to an independent candidate in Telangana. In such a situation, some symbols are reserved for the party and those symbols which are free can be made election symbols, which are called free symbols.

If we talk about bulldozer, then there is no bulldozer in the list of free symbols released by the Election Commission for the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, the name of bulldozer was not there in the list of 2009. In such a situation, no candidate can take bulldozer as his election symbol. The candidate will have to take one symbol from the symbols of the Election Commission.

What can’t we fight over other than a bulldozer?

Apart from the bulldozer, there are many other things which have not been included in the list of election symbols. Any negative thing like gun, knife etc. has not been included in these symbols. Recently, shoes, slippers etc. have also been included in the Lok Sabha elections, which were not in the list earlier due to their negative image. Slippers, bangles, earrings have now been included in the list of 190 election symbols.

On what issues can we fight elections?

There are about 190 items in the election contesting symbol, which includes bangles, pearl necklace, earring, ring, air conditioner, laptop, computer, mouse, calculator, CC camera, drill machine, vacuum cleaner, pen drive, bread toaster, remote, spanner, stapler, stethoscope, extension board, mike, diesel pump, dish antenna, doli, gas cylinder, gas stove, press, kettle, kitchen sink, wok, petrol pump, phone charger, pressure cooker, punching machine, saw, scissors, sewing machine, water ship, soap dish, sofa, swing, table, television, tube light, mixer, switch board, syringe, frying pan, headphone, helmet, robot, room cooler, heater, cupboard, auto-rickshaw, balloon, bat, batsman, belt, bench, bicycle pump, binoculars, man and sailing boat, box, bricks, briefcase, brush, bucket etc.
