‘Called to hotel, made to remove clothes on pretext of audition’, young actress complains against Malayalam director Ranjit

These days, there is an uproar in the Malayalam film industry due to allegations of sexual harassment. After the Hema Committee report on the problems faced by women in the industry came out, more actresses are sharing their stories and many big names in Malayalam cinema have been accused of sexual harassment. But the case that has come up now is even more shocking.

A Malayalam actor has filed a complaint against filmmaker Ranjit. The actor has accused Ranjit of sexual assault and said in his complaint that the director forced him to remove his clothes.

The young actor made serious allegations against the director
A young Malayalam actor has alleged that Kerala filmmaker Ranjith Par invited him to a Bangalore hotel for an audition in 2012. The director forced him to remove his clothes and sexually assaulted him.

The actor has also said that he thought all this was a part of the film audition. In the allegations, the actor said that after the sexual assault, Ranjit also offered him money the next morning. According to Kerala Police, the actor has given his complaint to the Director General of Police and the SIT is going to join the investigation of this case.

The Kerala government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the sexual harassment allegations coming out from the Malayalam industry following the Hema Committee report. This SIT also includes four senior women police officers and is investigating sexual harassment cases against big names in Malayalam cinema.

Ranjit is already under investigation
After the Hema Committee report came out, a Bengali actress accused Ranjit of misbehavior. The actress alleged that Ranjit misbehaved with her during a film audition in 2009. After the actress’ allegations, Ranjit resigned from the post of Chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy.

On the other hand, after this big controversy in the Malayalam industry, all the members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), formed to protect the interests of the artists of the industry, resigned. Senior actor and one of the icons of Malayalam cinema Mohanlal was the president of AMMA. He resigned along with all the members of the executive committee of the association. Some big names of Malayalam cinema who were office bearers in this committee have also been accused of sexual harassment.
