jalandhar west bypoll, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) landslide victory in the by-election to the Jalandhar West assembly seat, which fell vacant following the resignation of Angural as AAP MLA in March, shows that people are very happy with the state government’s work.
Who got how many votes?
According to officials, AAP candidate Mohinder Bhagat defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Angural by 37,325 votes. Bhagat got 55,246 votes while Angural got 17,921 votes. Congress candidate Surinder Kaur got 16,757 votes and came third.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said in a post on social media platform ‘X’, “Congratulations to everyone for the spectacular victory of Aam Aadmi Party in the by-election in Jalandhar West Assembly constituency. This victory with a huge margin shows that people across Punjab are very happy with the work of our government. We will make Jalandhar West ‘Best’ as promised during the by-election. Congratulations to Mohinder Bhagat ji.
AAP’s strength increased
Celebrations were held at Bhagat’s residence in Jalandhar. AAP workers burst crackers, distributed sweets and danced to the beats of drums on Bhagat’s victory and AAP also took out a Vijay Yatra in Jalandhar. With this victory, AAP will now have 91 MLAs in the 117-member Punjab Assembly.
For Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, winning the by-election is important as his party AAP suffered a crushing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. The party could win only three out of 13 parliamentary seats in the state.
