Building wall collapsed in strong storm, landslide in China took the lives of 15 people

A landslide has occurred in Yulin village of Hengyang city in Hunan province of China due to heavy rains. 15 people lost their lives in this incident and six others were injured. The landslide occurred around 8 pm on Sunday, in which 18 people were buried when a part of a residential building collapsed.

It is being told that more than 300 rescue forces were deployed at the spot and the injured were taken to hospitals. All the people buried under the debris have been rescued, in which 15 bodies were recovered. Six people have been rescued from the debris, some of whom were seriously injured.

Heavy rain after cyclone

It is being told that heavy rain was happening due to cyclonic storm Gaemi. Although it was a cyclone earlier, it subsided by 28 July. Due to this, there are flood-like conditions in many cities of China and alert has also been issued regarding flood in some cities. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of rain in some areas even after Gaemi subsided.

Flood like situation in 20 major rivers in China

China has been battling severe floods since the beginning of the rainy season on April 1. Extremely heavy rainfall has caused flooding in 20 major rivers across the country, causing several deaths in different cities and forcing thousands of people to be evacuated. Climate change is worsening weather conditions around the world and the recent incident in China is also considered a result of this.

The National Meteorological Center has issued several warnings, including a “yellow” alert for torrential rain affecting several provinces. The Meteorological Department has predicted 80 mm of rain per hour. Local arrangements are also being made due to the deteriorating weather.
