Dinner in the Seminar Hall
One of them was the trainee doctor who was called for emergency duty in the hospital on Thursday night. She completed her duty at night and went to the seminar hall of the hospital for dinner with her four colleagues. Along with dinner, they also watched Neeraj Chopra’s match together. After which her friends left from there, but that trainee doctor decided to stay there and sleep a little or say pass the night.

The doctor was sleeping in the seminar hall
Actually, this seminar hall of the hospital is rarely used for activities like seminars or meetings. In such a situation, usually the hospital staff and doctors often go to this seminar hall to rest, change or take a nap during night duty. On Thursday night also, that 31-year-old doctor was resting in that seminar hall after dinner and she was seen sleeping there till around 3 o’clock in the night.
August 9, 2024, 6 am
The next day, that is, around 6 am on Friday, whatever the hospital staff saw in the seminar hall created a ruckus not only in the hospital but in the whole of Kolkata. The half-naked body of the same trainee doctor was lying in the seminar hall, soaked in blood and there were numerous injury marks on the body. Looking at the body, it seemed that perhaps an attempt was made to molest the trainee doctor a few hours ago and in this attempt, she was killed. This was definitely a big thing. Because in a secure place like a hospital, a trainee doctor was murdered in the seminar hall inside the emergency building and no one heard any scream or noise of this incident until someone saw her body the next morning.
Who is the doctor’s killer?
Now the question was how could this happen? Who was behind this murder? Some staff of the hospital, some caretaker of the patient, some outsider or someone else? Soon people in the hospital started getting angry about this murder. Especially the doctors working in the hospital, trainees and students studying in the medical college were very angry with this incident. In such a situation, on receiving the news, Kolkata Police immediately reached the spot and started investigating the case. Initially, the police had no clue in this case except the blood-soaked body of the trainee doctor.
Seven-eight people were questioned
However, different teams were formed to investigate the case and each team started the investigation on its own. One team focused on technical investigation, another started identifying suspicious people visiting the hospital with the help of local sources, while another was given the responsibility of collecting information related to mobile phones. The main thing in the investigation was the footage of CCTV cameras installed around the seminar hall. Since the police also knew the possible time of the murder, the police started investigating the CCTV footage of this time frame. And in this connection, a total of seven to eight people came under the police radar, and interrogation of them was started.
The grip of investigation
In the hospital, the police was trying to understand by interrogating all these people what they were doing that night in the emergency building and especially around the seminar hall. Whoever’s answer was found satisfactory, the police kept him out of the scope of investigation, while the investigation tightened on the one whose answer seemed suspicious.
Sanjay Roy came on the police radar
In this connection, the police also came across the face of a civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy, 33 years old, who often visited that hospital. Incidentally, Sanjay was also seen going towards the seminar hall in the hospital in the CCTV camera that night. Roy was first seen in the hospital around 11 pm, after which he went out. But after this, he was again seen going towards the emergency building of the hospital at around 4 am in the morning and went out again from there after about 40 minutes. According to police sources, looking at his CCTV pictures, it seemed that he was probably drunk. Anyway, when the police started gathering information about Sanjay Roy, it was found that he was addicted to drugs and had a habit of drinking alcohol daily.
Police got an important clue like this
But in the meantime, the investigating police got such a clue, after which it became clear that the accused of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor is none other than Sanjay Roy, on whom the needle of suspicion is revolving. Actually, during the investigation of the crime scene, the police found a broken neckband Bluetooth earphone. There was a suspicion that this earphone could belong to any of the accused involved in this crime. Because it was clear in the investigation that that earphone was at least not of the victim girl, moreover, the way that earphone was broken, it seemed that it might have broken during the rape of the trainee doctor.
Neckband Bluetooth earphones revealed the secret
Now the police decided to check the CCTV footage once again to verify this aspect. And this time the police was surprised to see that when Sanjay Roy was going towards the emergency building at 4 am, he had a neckband Bluetooth earphone around his neck, but when he came out 40 minutes later, that Bluetooth earphone was not around his neck. This means that the suspicion was almost confirmed that the earphone belonged to Sanjay, which had fallen in the seminar hall during the atrocities and murder.
Earphones found by chance
Now the police tried to check the pairing of that Bluetooth earphone with the mobile phones of Sanjay as well as all the people shortlisted from the CCTV footage. And they were shocked to see that the earphone was found paired or connected with Sanjay’s mobile phone. That means it was almost clear that the earphone belonged to Sanjay Roy and not to anyone else.
Sanjay has countless porn videos in his phone
This was just the first step of the investigation. When the police checked Sanjay’s mobile phone, they found such things in it that even the police could not believe their eyes at first. Sanjay’s mobile phone was filled with countless porn videos. And the porn videos were not just any porn videos, but extremely violent and beyond all limits of humanity.
Shocking revelation about Sanjay Roy
According to police sources, this was proof that Sanjay Roy was a mentally deranged person, and very few people knew about this truth. Now the police, along with taking Sanjay into custody, started gathering as much information about him as possible. It was revealed that he often drinks alcohol at night and watches porn videos and roams around the hospital. During the investigation, the police found out that Sanjay Roy has been married four times, but despite this he lives alone. His house is near the hospital. In fact, due to such a strange and violent mentality, three of his wives have left him, while the fourth wife died of cancer last year.
Sanjay Roy was caught in a drunken state
After these details related to Sanjay Roy came to light and especially after his mobile phone was paired with the Bluetooth device found at the spot, the police took him into custody and started questioning him. If sources are to be believed, when the police caught him on Friday, he was still in an inebriated state. Initially, he tried his best to mislead the police, but due to the CCTV footage, Bluetooth and many other evidences found with him, he finally confessed to committing this crime. If police sources are to be believed, on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, at around 4 am, he attacked the trainee doctor when she was sleeping in the seminar hall. First he tried to molest her and then strangled her to death when she resisted.
Trying to destroy evidence
According to police sources, after the incident, Sanjay also tried to wash off the blood stains scattered at the crime scene. After the incident, he went home and washed his clothes. But there was one thing with him, which he forgot to clean the blood stains and that was his shoes. When the police arrested him, they recovered his wet clothes as well as his blood-stained shoes.
Comparison with Nirbhaya case
Kolkata Police has expressed apprehension that someone else may be involved in this incident along with Sanjay Roy. Police is investigating the case from that angle as well. Actually, the police were also shocked to see the marks of brutality on the body of the trainee doctor recovered from the seminar hall. The condition of the body was such that people started comparing it with the Nirbhaya case of Delhi.
The doctor’s body was full of wounds
Although the trainee doctor was strangulated to death, there were numerous injury marks on her body. There were many injuries on her face and her eyes were bleeding. There were scratch marks on her body and her private parts were also badly injured. Apart from this, there were injury marks on her lips, lower abdomen and right hand, fingers were broken and a collar bone was also fractured. After recovering the body on Friday, the police sent it for post-mortem.

The postmortem report has now come out. The report has found evidence of sexual assault on the girl before the murder. Apart from this, the injuries on her body are also of anti-mortem type, that is, it is also clear that she was tortured before the murder. The manner of death is said to be strangulation and suffocation. If the police is to be believed, the accused has confessed to the crime in the initial investigation. And during interrogation, he has told the police several times that he wants punishment for his act, he should be hanged.
DNA and forensic testing
Currently, the police is trying to find out through investigation whether the civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy was the only one involved in the rape of the trainee doctor or whether someone else was also involved in the murder. Currently, forensic experts are going to take the help of DNA examination to get to the bottom of this matter. They will try to find out through DNA whether the semen present on the dead body is of only one person or more than one person? And most importantly, whether that semen belongs to the accused Sanjay Roy or someone else? The police has also sent the accused’s clothes, shoes, mobile phone etc. for forensic examination. So that the blood stains found on the clothes and shoes can be examined and its DNA can also be tested, while the police is trying to extract the details of the data stored in the mobile phone along with his location.
The deceased was the only child of the family
The girl who became the victim of this incident comes from an ordinary family. Her house is in North 24 Parganas district. Her father runs a small business of school dresses. He used to supply school dresses and despite all the difficulties, he got his daughter educated in medicine. But now this incident has shattered him. The victim girl was the only child in her family.
Dangerous addiction to alcohol and porn
On the other hand, the accused in the case used to work for the civic volunteer police. Since he was posted in a nearby police post, he used to come and go to the hospital without any fear and being in the hospital, he used to earn money by helping people in getting treatment there as a middleman. But he had a dangerous addiction to alcohol and watching porn.
