Bring the papers, we are ready to give Sahara money, said Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given important information in the Lok Sabha regarding Sahara’s outstanding amount. On the question of refund of investors’ money, the Finance Minister said that the entire matter related to Sahara is under the supervision of the Supreme Court. She told that the estimated number of investors in Sahara India Real Estate Corporation Limited, Sahara Housing and Sahara India Corporation is 3.7 crores. A public appeal was made thrice that people should come and claim. Money will be given to the one who shows the papers. Retired Justice BN Agarwal Committee of the Supreme Court is looking into everything.

Rs 138 crore released: Finance Minister

The Finance Minister said that Rs 138.07 crores were claimed which have been released. Rs 25781 crores are yet to be fully distributed. He informed that 18 properties of Sahara India have been attached. After the formation of Cooperative Ministry, funds were demanded to pay the claims. 1.21 crores of claims were received in this. Claims worth Rs 374 crores have been released. Justice Subhash Reddy Committee is monitoring this matter. 1.25 crores of claims were received in Pearl Agro Cooperative. Refunds of Rs 1021 crores have been given in these. Justice Lodha is monitoring this. The Finance Minister said that whoever is there should go to the online portal and claim. A committee of three judges will look into it and the claims will be released. Three retired judges of the Supreme Court are monitoring this.

MP from Sikar, Rajasthan, Amara Ram had asked in the House that how much investment was made in Sahara and PHCL till now and how much money has been refunded. He had asked that why only 138 crores were returned even after more than 15 thousand crores were deposited. On this, Pankaj Chaudhary, citing SEBI’s order, said that only about 17 thousand people applied. Out of this, 138 crores have been given. He said that the government has appealed to the people to go to the court and claim the money themselves.

At the same time, BJP MP from Satna, Madhya Pradesh, Ganesh Singh said that the number of people who invested in Sahara and PCL is in lakhs. Not all people have received the money yet. Some people do not even have the documents. It will be valid in the portal only if there are papers. Will the government develop any mechanism for those who have invested through agents?

On this, the Finance Minister said that the decision will be taken by a committee of judges, we can share this suggestion with them. There was also a question about returning the money of investors by seizing the property of Pearl Company worth Rs 50 thousand crores. In response to this, the Finance Minister said that 1017 crores have been recovered from Pearl Agro. Many properties cannot be auctioned due to litigation. Giving the example of Ambi Valley, he said that we cannot auction just on the basis of having papers. The property will have to be auctioned, we will definitely do it. Those who want to take the money that is in our hands should come first. We also want to share your concerns.
