Body full of wounds and blood flowing from the private part… Horrifying story of 40 minutes of brutality with Kolkata’s Nirbhaya

Kolkata trainee doctor murder rape case: On the night of 8th August, around 11 pm, Kolkata’s Nirbhaya’s culprit Sanjay Roy reached the hospital for the first time. He stayed there for about half an hour. Then he left the hospital. After this, he reached the hospital again at 1 am. But this time he came out of the hospital at 4:35 am and went straight to the Kolkata Police barracks and slept. He stayed for about 40 minutes in the seminar hall of the hospital, in which the blood-soaked body of the trainee doctor was found.

Both eyes injured. Blood oozing from mouth. Injured lips. Whole face injured. Neck injured. Nails of fingers of both hands injured. Blood oozing from injured private part. Left leg injured. Stomach injured. Right foot heel injured. Right hand ring finger broken. This is the list of injuries that a trainee junior doctor from Kolkata has suffered. When this list itself is heart-wrenching, then imagine what would happen if the story of every injury is narrated like a story. To save herself and her honour, the junior doctor fought till her senses supported her and till she was conscious. Even after being injured, she saved herself and her honour. But the list of injuries was so long that she lost to both pain and consciousness.

Now she could not even see that savage. Because the glasses she was wearing had broken and injured both her eyes. Her eyes were closed and she was unconscious. And in this unconscious state, he kept disgracing her until she stopped breathing. But he was so drunk that he did not even realize whether the junior doctor was alive or not. So that the doctor does not make noise, he kept pressing her mouth and stifling her screams as long as she was conscious. Then when he got a chance, his same hands reached her neck. In the meantime, she did not even realize when she was strangled.

The post-mortem report of the junior doctor has come out. This report has given the details of every injury. The report says that all the injuries found on the body of the junior doctor were received when she was trying to save herself. In this attempt, the glass of her glasses broke. The pieces of which got stuck in her eyes. This was the reason for bleeding from both the eyes. The injuries on the face, nose, mouth were caused because the accused was constantly trying to control her. According to the report, the injury marks on the private part came when the junior doctor had become unconscious and he was venting his anger.

But why did that monster named Sanjay Roy do this to the junior doctor? Did Sanjay have any enmity with the junior doctor? Did he want to get hold of the junior doctor? Or did he have bad intentions towards the junior doctor? To find answers to these questions, it was necessary to bring out Sanjay’s entire story. Especially the day of the incident and a few days before that.

According to Kolkata Police, Sanjay’s routine for the last few days was like this. On August 5, Sanjay Roy went to attend a meeting of the Police Welfare Society in Salua, Kharagpur. Actually, Sanjay Roy worked as a volunteer in Kolkata Police. In 2019, Sanjay joined the disaster management group of Kolkata Police for the first time as a volunteer. Kolkata Police gives a certain amount every month to such civic volunteers. Later, Sanjay Roy moved from disaster management to the police welfare department.

After some time he was transferred from there and posted at Medical College and Hospital Police Station. He was currently posted there. Although he was just a volunteer, he still used to ride his bike with Kolkata Police tag. He even used to wear T-shirts and caps with KP written on them. Since he worked for Kolkata Police, he had good contacts with the police. Taking advantage of these contacts, he often stayed in the police barracks. Being a police volunteer, he had reached Salua in Kharagpur on 5 August to attend the meeting of Police Welfare Society. He stayed there for a total of three days.

After staying in Salua for three days, he returned to Kolkata on the morning of 8 August. After reaching Kolkata, he first went to RG Kar Hospital. Sanjay often used to collect money like a broker in the name of getting patients admitted in government hospitals. On 8 August also, he admitted a patient to the hospital in the same way. After getting him admitted, he left the hospital. After this, he did not go to the hospital for the whole day.

At around 11 pm on the same night of 8th August, Sanjay returns to the hospital after doing RG. Here he meets the same patient whom he had admitted during the day. After coming to the hospital, he helps the patient in getting an X-ray done. The patient’s relatives were also with him during the X-ray. After getting the X-ray done, Sanjay again leaves the hospital.

Now the date was 8th to 9th August. It was around 1 am late night. Sanjay comes to the hospital again. This time he comes to see the patient whom he had admitted and who was to undergo surgery the next day. After attending the patient, he goes to the back of the hospital building with a caretaker of the same patient. Both of them drink alcohol there. After drinking alcohol, Sanjay gives money to the caretaker to go home on an Uber bike. The caretaker now leaves the hospital.

It was three o’clock in the night. After sending the attendant home, Sanjay, in a drunken state, again enters the main building of the hospital. After this, he goes to the third floor of the building. On this floor was the Chest Medicine Department. And on the same floor was a seminar hall. Drunk Sanjay enters the same seminar hall. As soon as he enters, his eyes fall on the same junior doctor who had come to the same seminar hall to rest at that time and was probably sleeping. He was already intoxicated by alcohol, and on top of that, the third floor was deserted. There was no one else in the seminar hall either.

Actually, that junior doctor was on night shift in Chest Medicine Department. After seeing all the patients, she had dinner in the canteen at 2 am with her four fellow doctors. After eating, the rest of the doctors went to see the patients. Since the junior doctor had no work at that time, she decided to go to the same seminar hall to rest for a while. Actually, during the night shift, all the doctors and other medical staff often used to go to the same seminar hall to rest. Because it used to be empty at night. And there are about 35 to 40 chairs inside. The junior doctor reached the seminar hall at around 3 am and started resting on a chair.

Unfortunately, after some time, Sanjay, under the influence of alcohol, was in the same seminar hall and despite all his efforts, the junior doctor could not free herself from his clutches. Sanjay stayed in the seminar hall for about 40 minutes. After this, he left from there. When Sanjay left the hospital, it was 4:37 in the morning.

Amazingly, after disgracing a doctor and killing her, he does not leave the hospital and goes anywhere else but goes to the nearby Kolkata Police barracks and sleeps carefree. It was around 8 in the morning. At this very moment, a staff member of the hospital enters the seminar hall on the third floor. There, in front of his eyes, lies the dead body of the junior doctor.

In a short while, there was chaos in the entire hospital. Kolkata Police had now reached the spot. The junior doctor’s laptop and mobile were lying there along with his dead body. Along with that, a Bluetooth neck band. The dead body had upper clothes but not lower clothes. The case was of rape and murder of a junior doctor inside a government hospital. Kolkata Police now starts its investigation. All the staff present in the night shift are questioned. All the CCTV cameras of the hospital are checked. Especially all the cameras installed on the way to and from the seminar hall on the third floor are checked thoroughly. And then for the first time, Sanjay Roy is seen stumbling in the same camera. Kolkata Police’s own volunteer.

This camera gave the first clue to the police. In fact, when the police carefully looked at the CCTV camera, they found that when Sanjay went to the seminar hall at night, he had a Bluetooth neckband around his neck, but when he came out of the seminar hall at around 4:35 in the morning, the neckband was not around. And coincidentally, the police found a neckband with the body of the junior doctor. It did not take long to find out from the hospital staff that Sanjay is a police volunteer and often spends the night in the police barracks.

Immediately a police team reaches the barracks. Sleeping Sanjay is woken up and brought to the police station for questioning. But before Sanjay could be questioned, the Bluetooth neckband had given its testimony. The Bluetooth neckband found at the spot had connected to Sanjay’s mobile very easily. Now there was no scope of doubt that the Bluetooth neckband recovered from the spot belonged to Sanjay.

With the arrest of Sanjay, Kolkata Police claims that the case of rape and murder of the junior doctor has been solved. But there are still many questions that raise doubts about Kolkata Police. For example, people are not able to believe that Sanjay was able to single-handedly control the junior doctor, given her stature. There are many people who are convinced that Sanjay is not the only culprit of the junior doctor’s rape, but there are some other people as well. However, in response to this question, Kolkata Police has said that it has sent the DNA samples of both the junior doctor and Sanjay to the lab. If there are other people involved in the rape of the junior doctor besides Sanjay, then the DNA report will make it clear.
