BMW hit and run case: Accused Mihir Shah filed habeas corpus petition in High Court, demanding immediate release

BMW hit and run case: Mihir Shah, the prime accused in the BMW hit-and-run case, has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court claiming that he has been illegally detained. He has sought his immediate release.

The 24-year-old accused, Mihir Shah, had hit a two-wheeler with his BMW car in Mumbai’s Worli area on July 7, killing Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injuring her husband Pradeep. Following the incident, the accused, Mihir, was arrested on July 9.

In his habeas corpus petition filed in the High Court last week, Shah had claimed that his detention was illegal and he should be released immediately. Now a division bench of Justices Bharti Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande may hear his petition on Wednesday.

Mihir Shah is accused of speeding towards the Bandra Worli Sea Link after the accident, while the woman remained on the bonnet of the car and then remained entangled in the wheels of the car for more than 1.5 kilometres.

According to the police, Mihir Shah, who fled from the spot, was drunk at that time. Shah, his father Rajesh Shah and their driver Rajarshi Bidawat have been arrested in this case. Rajesh Shah is a former leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

According to PTI, Rajesh Shah has got bail in this high-profile case, while Mihir Shah and driver Bidawat are currently in judicial custody.
