‘Blood was coming out of daughter’s eyes, both legs…’, the words of father and neighbor on the death of lady doctor will shock you

The body of a female junior doctor (PGT) was recovered from the fourth floor seminar hall of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the morning of 9 August. Initially, it was reported to be a case of suicide, but later evidence of rape and murder of the lady doctor was found. Doctors are protesting in medical institutions across the country, including Bengal, over this incident. Kolkata Police has arrested a suspected accused in this case, 33-year-old Sanjay Roy, who is a civic volunteer.

However, the Kolkata High Court has handed over the investigation of this case to the CBI. The central investigating agency took over the investigation on Tuesday. To understand this horrifying incident, the team of our associate ‘The Lallantop’ reached ground zero and talked to the victim’s family and neighbors. The father of the dead girl said that he was told on the phone that his daughter has committed suicide. The police is trying its best to solve this case.

The girl’s father said that we have full faith in Didi (Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee). The students of the medical college who are protesting also have our full support. Everyone is sharing our grief, so our grief is reducing a little. He appealed to all the political parties and their leaders to help us get justice, we don’t want anything else from you. No one can bring my daughter back now. If justice is served, her soul will also get peace and our hearts will also get satisfaction.

A female neighbour of the deceased girl shared her experience of 9th August with ‘The Lallantop’. She said, ‘Around 10:30 pm, my neighbour (mother of the deceased) hugged me, screaming, crying and saying that everything is over. I said what happened? She said that the news has come from the hospital that my daughter has committed suicide. I asked suicide… when, how. She said that this is what they said. Four of us, me, the girl’s parents and one more friend of ours, reached the hospital. We were made to stand there for three hours.’

The neighbour woman said, ‘A couple whose 31-year-old daughter died like this, were made to stand for three hours. The parents kept begging, show us once… show us our daughter’s face once. We were not shown. After three hours the parents were taken to the seminar hall. The father took a photo on his mobile phone and showed it to me. There was blood in her mouth. Her glasses were broken, due to which blood oozed out of her eyes. There was no clothing on the body. Both legs were found at right angles. One leg was on one side of the bed and the other leg was on the other side of the bed. Unless the pelvic girdle is broken, the legs cannot be like this. She was killed by strangulation.’

The neighbor of the dead girl said, ‘I request the Prime Minister and the President, if my message reaches them then there should be justice for the victim’s family in this case. Whatever I said is true. All these things have been said in the post-mortem report. She was a promising girl. She cracked the exam with her talent and was studying medicine. She was going to become a good doctor. Such an incident with that 31-year-old girl is very shocking.
