BJP raised the demand to change the date of Haryana elections, put forward the argument of ‘6 days long weekend’

Assembly elections are going to be held in Haryana. The Election Commission has announced the dates. Voting will be held in a single phase for all 90 seats of the state. Voting will be held in Haryana on October 1 and the election results will come after counting of votes on October 4. The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded to change the date of voting for the Haryana Assembly elections.

BJP wrote a letter to the Election Commission

Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli has written a letter to the Election Commission in which he has asked to change the polling date of October 1 due to fear of low voter turnout. He says that there are many holidays before and after the polling date of October 1, due to which there may be less voting, so this date should be changed.

Mohan Lal Badoli has written a letter to the commission saying that there are holidays before and after the polling day on 1 October. Due to these holidays, people may go out for a walk. This may affect the voting percentage. On this basis, he has requested the Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana to change the date of polling.

Many holidays before and after October 1

In his letter, he has mentioned that 28th is Saturday and 29th is Sunday and voting will be held on Monday, 1st October. While 2nd October is a holiday on account of Gandhi Jayanti, 3rd October is a holiday on account of Agrasen Jayanti. In such a situation, due to the 6-day long weekend, people can go on holidays. After the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission had said that we have learnt a lesson from these elections that elections should not be held in extreme heat and voting should not be held on weekends.

A look at the 2019 assembly elections

Last time, in the 2019 assembly elections, votes were cast in a single phase. Then votes were cast for all the seats of Haryana Assembly on 21 October 2019. The election results were announced on 24 October. In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, 68.20 percent of the voters exercised their franchise.

In the Haryana Assembly elections 2019, BJP emerged as the largest party by winning 40 seats with 36.7 percent vote share. At that time, Congress got 28.2 percent votes and the party stood second with 31 seats. Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) won 10 seats with 14.9 percent vote share, Haryana Lokhit Party won one seat with less than one percent vote share.

Nayab Singh Saini became CM

Seven independents and one other were also successful in reaching the assembly by winning the elections. No party could reach the magic figure of 46 members required for majority. After the election results, BJP came into active mode and formed the government with the support of JJP, Haryana Lokhit Party and independents. Before the Lok Sabha elections, BJP broke the alliance with JJP and made Nayab Singh Saini the CM in place of Manohar Lal Khattar.
