Bike ran out of fuel, GPS glitched and phone dead… Telangana youth lost in Saudi desert and dies

A case of the death of a young man from Telangana in the desert of Saudi Arabia has come to light. This Indian youth, who was working in Saudi Arabia for three years, lost his life after getting lost in Rub al-Khali, one of the most dangerous deserts in the world.

The deceased youth has been identified as 27-year-old Shahzad Khan, a resident of Karimnagar in Telangana, who was working in a company in Saudi Arabia for the last three years.

Shahbaz worked as a tower technician in a telecom company in Saudi’s Al Hasa region. He had left for routine work with one of his colleagues five days ago. But due to a problem in GPS, both of them lost their way and reached the Rub al-Khali desert. But the situation worsened when the fuel in their motorcycle ran out and the mobile phone’s battery also ran out, due to which the phone became dead.

This is one of the most arid regions in the world, where it is extremely difficult to survive without water and food. Due to the absence of wildlife like camels, it becomes difficult for people lost in the desert to get help. In such a situation, it was difficult for Shahbaz and his companion to survive due to lack of water and food and scorching heat. Both of them died due to hunger, thirst, dehydration and fatigue after being stranded in the desert for several days. This incident came to light when Shahbaz’s company filed a missing report and a search operation was started, after which the bodies of both were recovered in the desert.

Why is Rub al-Khali dangerous?

Rub al-Khali is also known as Empty Quarter due to its inaccessible terrain. This desert is one-fourth of the total area of Saudi Arabia. Rub al-Khali is spread over a distance of 650 kilometers. This desert extends to the borders of Oman, UAE and Yemen and is known for its extremely adverse conditions.
