What is Chief Whip?
The Chief Whip and the Whip play an important role in parliamentary proceedings. Their job is to keep the party MPs united and instruct them to be present in the House during discussions on important bills. Whenever a party issues a whip, all its members have to follow it. By issuing a whip, the party tries to prevent cross voting. If a member does not follow the whip, his membership is in danger and he can also be disqualified under the anti-defection law.
