Bihar: Lightning wreaks havoc in Nawada, 6 people died due to lightning, CM announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh each

Six people died and three people were seriously injured due to lightning in Bihar’s Nawada district today (Wednesday), July 7. All the injured were admitted to a government hospital for treatment. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), these incidents occurred in Auraiya, Pakribarawan, Qadirganj and Roh police station areas.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the 6 deaths in this lightning incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. CM Nitish also appealed to the people to follow the advice issued by the Disaster Management Department and advised them to stay safe in their homes during bad weather.

Let us tell you that since August 1, more than 26 people have died due to lightning in different districts of the state. According to the latest Bihar Economic Survey (2023-24) report presented in the state assembly during the budget session in February this year, “There have been 400 lightning/thunderstorm related deaths in the state in 2022.

Among districts, Gaya has reported the highest number of deaths (46), followed by Bhojpur (23), Nawada (21), Banka (21), Aurangabad (20) and Nalanda and Kaimur (18 each).

The survey also said that Bihar has allocated Rs 430.92 crore for disaster management in 2022-23. The biggest chunk, Rs 285.22 crore, is dedicated to localised disasters like lightning and drowning.

What is the update on rain in Bihar?

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department (IMD), Bihar will remain cloudy on August 8 and light to moderate rain with thunder may occur at some places. At the same time, the minimum temperature is expected to be 26 degrees and the maximum temperature is expected to be 34 degrees Celsius. If we talk about the whole week, drizzle and light rain activities will continue at some places every day till August 11.
