Big relief to SP MP Afzal Ansari, Allahabad HC stays sentence in Krishnanand Rai murder case

Samajwadi Party MP Afzal Ansari from Ghazipur, UP has got a big relief from Allahabad High Court. The High Court has cancelled the 4-year sentence given by the MP-MLA court of Ghazipur. Let us tell you that in April last year, Afzal was sentenced to four years in the gangster case registered in the Krishnanand Rai murder case.

There is no threat to membership of Parliament

Allahabad High Court has overturned the decision of Ghazipur Court. This decision of the High Court has made it clear that Afzal Ansari’s membership of Parliament will remain intact. The court had reserved its decision in this case on 4 July.

Let us tell you that Afzal Ansari was sentenced to 4 years in prison on 29 April 2023 last year in the gangster case. Due to the 4-year sentence, Afzal Ansari had to go to jail and his membership of Parliament was revoked. However, due to the stay on the sentence by the Supreme Court, Afzal’s membership was restored. In the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Afzal Ansari contested from Ghazipur on a SP ticket and won.

Afzal Afzal became MP for the first time in 2004

Ansari first became MP from Ghazipur on Samajwadi Party ticket in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, but on 29 November 2005, BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai was murdered and in December 2005, Afzal Ansari had to go to jail on charges of conspiracy. After this, in 2009, Afzal Ansari contested on BSP ticket, but lost the election. In 2014, he contested from Ballia seat on Qaumi Ekta Dal ticket and lost the election again. In 2019, SP BSP alliance was formed and Afzal Ansari contested from Ghazipur on BSP ticket and was elected MP for the second time, but 4 years after becoming MP for the second time, in April 2023, the MP/MLA court of Ghazipur sentenced him to 4 years in Gangster Act and Afzal Ansari had to go to jail.
