Big blow to BJD in Odisha, senior leader Mamta Mohanta resigns from the party and Rajya Sabha membership

Rajya Sabha MP Mamta Mohanta resigned, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has suffered a major setback in Odisha. Prominent leader of Kudumi community and BJD Rajya Sabha MP Mamta Mohanta has resigned from Rajya Sabha and party membership. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar accepted her resignation with immediate effect. Mamta Mohanta gave this information on X.

Mamata Mohanta wrote on social media, I express my sincere gratitude for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Mayurbhanj and take Odisha’s cause to the national level. However, I feel that there is no need for my and my community’s services in the BJD. Therefore, I have taken this tough decision in public interest.

Letter written in the name of Naveen Patnaik

Mohanta submitted her resignation to BJD President Naveen Patnaik. In her resignation addressed to party president Naveen Patnaik, she wrote, Respected Sir, I resign from the primary membership of Biju Janata Dal on July 31, 2024. I express my heartfelt gratitude to you for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Mayurbhanj and raise the issue of Odisha at the national level. She said that I feel that there is no need for my and my community’s services in Biju Janata Dal. Therefore, I have taken this tough decision in public interest. I request you to accept my resignation. Let us tell you that Mamta Mohanta was elected as Rajya Sabha MP in April 2020. The reason behind her resignation is not clear at the moment.
