President Joe Biden has reportedly become more receptive to concerns about his ability to continue his reelection campaign, according to senior Democratic sources. While Biden has not publicly addressed these issues, he has engaged in private discussions with lawmakers and appears less resistant to suggestions that he step aside.

Considering Kamala Harris as the Nominee
The reports indicate that Biden has inquired about the feasibility of Kamala Harris, the current Vice President, assuming the lead position on the Democratic ticket. This development comes as Biden, at 81 years old, has faced criticism over his performance in the June 27 debate against former President Donald Trump. Biden acknowledged that his global travels before the debate were not wise and contributed to his lackluster performance.

Biden’s Shifting Stance
Previously, Biden had firmly declared his intention to stay in the race and defeat Trump. However, his current demeanor, as described by sources, marks a departure from his previous resolute statements. The president, who had emphasized his commitment to enduring the campaign, now seems more open to the possibility of withdrawing.

Mounting Pressure from Democrats
The recent turn of events has prompted some Democratic figures to urge Biden to withdraw from the race. House Representative Jim Himes of Connecticut, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, and House Representative Scott Peters, D-Calif, have both released statements calling for the president to exit the race.

Biden’s Response and Gaffes
Despite the mounting pressure, Biden has firmly rejected any suggestion that he should or would drop out, maintaining that he is the most capable candidate to defeat Trump in November. However, during a recent solo press conference, Biden made several verbal missteps, including mistakenly referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump”. These gaffes have further fueled concerns about Biden’s ability to effectively lead the Democratic campaign.

In the face of these challenges, Biden has acknowledged that he would consider leaving the race if his team advised him that there was “no way” he could win. As the Democratic National Committee prepares to virtually nominate Biden before the party’s convention in August, the party is navigating a delicate balance between ensuring Biden’s nomination and addressing internal concerns about the nomination process.
