President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 while campaigning in Las Vegas, Nevada. The White House confirmed that Biden is experiencing “mild symptoms” and has received his first dose of the antiviral medication Paxlovid.
Despite testing positive, Biden was spotted leaning out of the window of his presidential vehicle, known as “The Beast”, and giving the press a thumbs-up at the Las Vegas airport. At the time, the president was not wearing a mask.
Biden’s doctor, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, stated that the president’s respiratory rate, temperature, and oxygen levels were all normal. However, the president was experiencing upper respiratory symptoms including a runny nose and a non-productive cough, along with “general malaise”.

The president was scheduled to speak at an event for the civil rights organization UnidosUS, but had to cancel his appearance due to his positive COVID-19 test. UnidosUS president and CEO Janet Murguía expressed the organization’s understanding, saying the president “did not want to put anybody at risk.”
The White House has said that Biden will return to his beach home in Rehoboth, Delaware to self-isolate while he continues to work. The president is fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.
