Bhopal: Veteran Congress leader Arif Aqeel passes away, was MLA for 6 times

Madhya Pradesh Congress veteran Arif Aqeel has passed away. He was ill for a long time. Arif Aqeel was an MLA from Bhopal’s North Assembly seat for 6 times. He was made a minister in the Madhya Pradesh government twice and was given the responsibility of Minority Welfare, Jail and Food Department. Arif Aqeel became an MLA for the first time in 1990.

Let us tell you that due to poor health, Arif Aqeel got his son a ticket from Bhopal North seat in the year 2023. At present, Arif’s son Atif Aqeel is currently an MLA from Bhopal North.

A town was established after the Bhopal gas leak incident

Arif Aqeel was successful in building his image among the public after the Union Carbide gas leak accident in Bhopal in 1984. He established a town called Arif Nagar at some distance from the factory. The victims of the gas tragedy and their families were settled at this place.

While being a minister in the Congress government, Arif Aqeel also worked hard to get compensation for the people affected by the gas tragedy. Bhopal North seat has around 54 percent Muslim votes, but there are also a good number of voters from the Sindhi community.
