Bangalore Double Decker Flyover: Vehicular movement will be allowed on one side of the double-decker flyover, spanning 3.3 km from Ragigudda to Central Silk Board (CSB) along Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line (RV Road-Bommasandra). A month after completion, Bengaluru’s first double-decker flyover will open for vehicular trial runs from July 17. Vehicular movement will be allowed on one side of the flyover, spanning 3.3 km from Ragigudda to Central Silk Board (CSB) along Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line (RV Road-Bommasandra).

DK Shivakumar will inaugurate the trial run of the flyover

Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar will inaugurate the flyover near Ragigudda for a trial run on July 17 at 3 pm. The event will also be attended by Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, local MLAs and officials. Sources said that though the double-decker structure was ready for inauguration last month, it was delayed due to the need for joint representation of the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry and the Karnataka government for the inauguration ceremony. A source said that the general public will be able to use it from July 17, as its trial run will continue till the official inauguration. The formal inauguration ceremony will be held later in the presence of representatives from the Central and State governments. It may be noted that on October 9, 2023, two Purple Line sections of BMRCL-KR Puram-Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri-Challaghatta were opened to the public after regular metro users put pressure to start operations without inauguration. Later, PM Modi formally launched both the sections on October 20, 2023.

The route from Ragigudda to CSB will provide a signal-free corridor, which is expected to reduce traffic congestion during peak hours. The CSB junction, connecting the Outer Ring Road and Hosur Road, is one of the busiest intersections in Bengaluru. The lower deck of the flyover will be suitable for vehicular traffic, while the upper deck is designed for Namma Metro use. The construction of the Yellow Line (RV Road- Bommasandra) is likely to be completed by December 2024. This road flyover, built eight metres above the ground, runs parallel to the metro viaduct located 16 metres above the surface. Similar road-cum-metro structures are operational in cities like Jaipur, Nagpur and Mumbai.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is constructing five loops and ramps at CSB junction (A, B, C, D and E). Ramps A, B and C will connect KR Puram and Hosur Road from the Ragigudda/BTM Layout side, while ramps D and E will connect KR Puram to BTM Layout and Ragigudda. Ramps A, B and C are now complete, while ramps D and E are expected to be completed by June 2025.
