‘Bangladesh will not become Afghanistan at any cost…’, said Mohammad Yunus

It has been a month since the coup of Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh. Since the coup in Bangladesh, cases of violence against Hindus have increased there. Meanwhile, the head of the country’s new interim government, Mohammad Yunus, has reacted to the violence against Hindus and the comparison of Bangladesh with Afghanistan.

Mohammad Yunus has rejected the allegations that Sheikh Hasina’s rule would turn Bangladesh into Afghanistan. Yunus said that India will have to get out of this narrative and work towards improving bilateral relations between the two countries.

What did Mohammad Yunus say about the attack on Hindus?

The head of the new interim government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus, said that the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are more political than communal. He said that these attacks are political and not communal. India is exaggerating these incidents on a large scale. We did not say that we cannot do anything about this. We have said that we are trying our best.

Sheikh Hasina should stop making political statements

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is in India since the coup in Bangladesh on August 5. Meanwhile, regarding Sheikh Hasina, Mohammad Yunus said that Sheikh Hasina is making political statements about Bangladesh while sitting in India, which is not right. She will have to keep her mouth shut to maintain harmony between the two countries. We will request the Indian government for her extradition.

Yunus said that if India wants to keep Sheikh Hasina till her extradition to Bangladesh, then the condition for this is that Sheikh Hasina will have to remain silent. She will have to avoid political comments.

Mohammad Yunus said during an interview in Dhaka that Bangladesh prefers strong relations with India. India will also have to rise above the narrative in which it sees other parties of Bangladesh except Awami League as Islamic parties. India thinks that without Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh will turn into Afghanistan.

He said that we are not comfortable with Sheikh Hasina’s stance in India. We want her extradition as soon as possible so that she can be prosecuted. She is constantly making statements while staying in India, which is a problem. If she had sat quietly in India, we would have forgotten her. People of Bangladesh would also have forgotten her, but she is constantly making statements while sitting in India. Nobody likes this.

How did the movement start in Bangladesh?

Reservation in government jobs in Bangladesh was given to the families of those who had played a role in the freedom struggle against Pakistan. Fierce protests had started there against this quota. Sheikh Hasina tried to stop this movement with both strategy and force but both the efforts failed. In the end, she accepted all the demands of the protesters, but the protesters insisted on her resignation.

Meanwhile, on August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and came to India. At the same time, large-scale violence started in Bangladesh. Many police stations were attacked and set on fire. A large number of people died in the incidents of violence that broke out across the country. After this, an interim government was formed in Bangladesh under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus.
