Bangladesh Violence: Maitree Express connecting Kolkata to Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka (Maitri Express) The services have been suspended till Tuesday due to operational reasons. Eastern Railway gave this information. This decision has come amid violent protests in Bangladesh demanding reforms in the reservation system in government jobs. More than 100 people have lost their lives so far in these violent protests.

Let us tell you that in the ongoing student movement in Bangladesh against reservation in government jobs, the Supreme Court has (Supreme Court) has intervened. The court has ruled to end reservation in most government jobs. On Sunday, the Supreme Court said in its order that recruitment in 93 percent of government jobs in the country should be done on the basis of merit. The court also said that only 5 percent reservation should be given to the family members of the fighters who participated in the 1971 freedom movement. The remaining two percent jobs have been reserved for the handicapped, transgenders and racial minorities.
More than 100 people died
Bangladesh has been a battleground for reservation in jobs since the beginning of July. Violent protests are being held against the quota system in different parts of the country. So far, more than 115 people have been killed in these violent protests. According to local media, the death toll may be higher. Train services have been closed since Saturday amid fears of protests turning more violent after the Supreme Court’s decision. Kolkata-Khulna-Kolkata Bandhan Expressway (Bandhan Express) was also closed since Sunday. Now Maitree Express has been suspended till Tuesday.
