Bandaged Trump Receives Roaring Welcome at Republican Convention

Former President Donald Trump made his first public appearance since a recent assassination attempt, arriving at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee with a bandage on his right ear.

The crowd erupted in cheers and chants of “Fight, fight, fight!” as Trump took the stage, visibly shaken but defiant. [1][4] In his remarks, Trump thanked God for sparing his life and vowed to continue his quest for the presidency, declaring “The fight has just begun!”

Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, also took the stage and announced that he had the “overwhelming support” of the convention to be Trump’s vice presidential pick. This marks Trump’s third consecutive nomination as the Republican presidential candidate.

The assassination attempt occurred just two days prior at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, where a gunman opened fire as Trump was speaking. Fortunately, Trump was unharmed aside from the graze wound to his ear.

In his remarks, Trump acknowledged the “somber moment” but said “evil came for the man we admire and love so much.” He thanked God for protecting him and vowed to continue his fight to “Make America Great Again.”

The focus of the convention is expected to shift to issues like immigration and crime for the remainder of the event, according to Trump’s campaign team. Trump is scheduled to deliver a major address on Thursday night, though he said he is reworking his planned speech in light of the assassination attempt.

Despite the harrowing incident, Trump’s supporters remained steadfast, welcoming him with thunderous applause and chants of support. The former president’s resilience in the face of adversity has only seemed to embolden his base as he embarks on his third quest for the White House.
