Actress Avika Gor, famous as TV’s Choti Anandi, is known in every household. After working in the TV show ‘Balika Vadhu’, Avika got a different identity in the industry. After gaining fame at a young age, the actress worked in the serial ‘Sasural Simar Ka’. After this, she started working in Bollywood and South cinema. But very few people know that 26-year-old Avika has also produced three films so far. Not only this, she has also visited the famous Cannes Film Festival before other Indian celebrities.

Award-winning film at film festivals

Avika Gaur talked about this in Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast. She said, ‘I was the youngest person to be nominated for the original screenplay of a short film at the Berlin Film Festival. And our film, I and Manish Raisinghan who was my co-actor in Sasural Simar Ka serial, both of us made a short film together. There was a film festival in Berlin, it won the best film there. Not many people know this. We used to do this. I was 15-16 years old then. We have been to the Cannes Film Festival two-three times. That (short film) was also screened there, we had released the poster of another picture. Then we also sold it at other places in France. We did a lot of things there.’

Avika told that when she was going to Cannes Film Festival, many designers refused to give her their clothes. No one was showing interest in dressing her. In such a situation, the actress asked one of her friends for her gown, which she also wore on the red carpet.

How do stars get their photos taken in Cannes?

Avika Gaur also told how the stars are photographed on the red carpet of Cannes. She said, ‘Very few people know this. But there are many photographers on the red carpet of Cannes, who take your photo. Then they give you their card, on which their photo booth number is written. So you can go there and collect your photos and give it to your PR.’ This means that you have to buy your photo from them. The actress said that she has also become friends with a photographer in France. He clicks people’s photos day and night at the Cannes Film Festival every year, writes down the numbers and perhaps this is how he survives throughout the year.

Knowledge gained on filmmaking

Avika also talked about the secret places of Cannes. She said, ‘When I was young, I used to think that you walk on the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival and you go inside and watch the film and that’s it. But after going to Cannes, Manish and I came to know that there is a market area behind it where you get to know what films are actually being made. There are different pavilions of different countries, where you get information. When we went the second time, we enjoyed all those things completely. The second time we saw how filmmaking is done. That’s why we sold the film in France. Our focus was something else.’

He further said, ‘I have a friend Palash Muchhal who went to Cannes this year. Before he went, I told him to pose on the red carpet but also go to the market area behind. You will get an understanding of filmmaking in the market area. I heard about all these things about Unreal Engine there in 2013-14. There are not only Hollywood films but films from every country, filmmakers from every country come there. So you also get a chance to watch a lot of films. Not just the ones on the red carpet. There is a lot in that film festival that people don’t know.’
