The Prime Minister of Haiti has been shot at. Security forces safely evacuated PM Gary Conil from a hospital in Port-au-Prince. Gang war is going on in Haiti and such incidents are often reported here. For example, gang fighters attack common people and security forces every day. Security forces had to fire back to save the Prime Minister.
This incident happened when Prime Minister Conil was visiting Haiti’s largest hospital with National Police Chief Norman Rameau and some journalists, when gunfire was heard outside. The Prime Minister was giving an interview during his visit to the hospital when gunfire broke out. Meanwhile, the security forces fired several rounds while coming out.
No one was injured in the firing
In a statement issued from Prime Minister Konil’s office, it was clarified that the Prime Minister and his convoy managed to leave the hospital safely. After this accident, the PM reached his office directly. According to global media reports, there were no casualties in this incident and there is no information about anyone being injured.

PM had arrived to inspect the hospital
In fact, the hospital PM Konil visited was occupied by gangs and only last month the security forces had taken control of this hospital. The PM and his team had come to inspect the hospital but the firing incident here created insecurity. During his hospital visit, the PM described the area as a ‘war zone’, due to which the health system in the area was badly affected.

The hospital is under the control of the UN-backed mission led by Haiti’s national police and Kenyan police, who have been deployed to Haiti to curb violence. Gangs control 80 percent of Haiti’s capital and are looting medical institutions and pharmacies.
