Assembly election process begins in Jammu and Kashmir today, notification issued for 24 seats

The process of assembly elections has started in Jammu and Kashmir from today (20 August). Notification for the first phase of voting will be issued today. The last date for filing nominations has been fixed as 27 August. Assembly elections are being held here after a long wait of 10 years. Voting for the first phase is to be held on 18 September. In which voting will take place in 24 assembly constituencies.

Voting is to be held on 24 seats in the first phase of polling on September 18. Out of these, 16 seats are from Kashmir valley, while 8 seats are from Jammu region. The party can announce its candidates in a day or two.

Let us tell you that after becoming a Union Territory in 2019 and the removal of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir is ready for its first assembly elections in a decade. The result of the three-phase assembly elections for 90 seats will be released on October 4. This will be the first time after 2014 that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will vote in the assembly elections.

After the redrawing of constituencies in 2022, the number of assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir has increased to 90. This includes 47 seats in the Kashmir Valley and 43 seats in Jammu.

This will be the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir after 2014. In 2014, votes were cast for 87 assembly seats in the state. Then the People’s Democratic Party emerged as the largest party by winning 28 seats. At the same time, BJP won 25 seats. National Conference won 15 seats and Congress won 12 seats. In the election results, no party could reach the magic figure of 44 seats required for majority. After the announcement of the election results, the first and second-placed parties PDP and BJP formed an alliance and formed a government under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

During the Lok Sabha elections, the people of Jammu and Kashmir showed tremendous enthusiasm for voting and cast a record vote. During the general elections in Jammu and Kashmir, 58.46 percent voting took place which is the highest voting record in the last 35 years. There are five Lok Sabha seats in the Union Territory. National Conference and Bharatiya Janata Party won two seats each while independent engineer Rashid won one seat.
