Asaram will be treated in police custody, he will pay for his air ticket and police charges himself

On Tuesday, Rajasthan High Court granted emergency parole to Asaram Bapu, who is serving life sentence in the rape case of a minor, for treatment of seven days. Asaram will be able to get his heart-related disease treated in an Ayurvedic hospital in Maharashtra while in police custody. Also, the court has said that Asaram will have to bear the entire cost of the parole.

While granting seven days emergency parole to Asaram, the division bench of Rajasthan High Court comprising Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Munnari Laxman said that he can get his treatment done while staying in police custody for seven days.

Advocate Ramchand Bhatt, who appeared on behalf of Asaram in the court, said that Asaram’s health is getting worse. Despite getting treatment from a private Ayurveda hospital in Jodhpur, there has been no significant improvement. Just five days ago, he was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur after his health suddenly deteriorated. Considering Asaram’s age and health, there is better treatment facility in Madhav Bagh Maharashtra. He cited better treatment facility in Madhav Bagh Multidisciplinary Cardiac Care Clinic Khopoli Maharashtra. However, the High Court had earlier seen the report of the Raigad Alibag Superintendent of Police, who expressed inability citing security reasons.

After considering all the aspects, the court granted seven days emergency parole to Asaram considering his health. The court also said that apart from the time of coming and going, he can get treatment there for seven days. The court has also allowed two aides and a doctor to accompany him for health care.

The court has granted seven days emergency parole along with police custody and directed Asaram to bear all expenses including air travel. The court said that the expenses of police custody will also be borne by Asaram. After depositing all the money, Asaram can be taken to Maharashtra on emergency parole for treatment.

The court has also directed that during this period Asaram and his associates will fully cooperate with Rajasthan Police and Maharashtra Police. They will not create any security lapse or trouble in any way. Earlier, the court had rejected more than 15 applications of Asaram.

Let us tell you that Asaram Bapu was arrested in 2013 from his ashram in Indore on charges of raping a minor. In 2018, he was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted under the POCSO Act. 83-year-old Asaram has been in jail for the last 11 years.
