Arvind Kejriwal gets interim bail

Arvind Kejriwal Granted interim bail: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The apex court today granted interim bail to Kejriwal in the ED arrest case. Hearing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam in Delhi, the Supreme Court granted interim bail. A bench headed by Justice Sanjeev Khanna pronounced the verdict. The Supreme Court said that Arvind Kejriwal remained in jail for more than 90 days. He is an elected leader and it is up to him whether he wants to remain in this position or not.

matter referred to larger bench

The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Kejriwal till the case remains pending before a larger bench. The bench headed by Justice Sanjeev Khanna referred the case to a larger bench while deciding three questions in its decision. Actually, Arvind Kejriwal had challenged the order of the Delhi High Court in which the High Court had upheld the summons issued to Kejriwal by the lower court in the scam case. Justice Sanjeev Khanna said that the court cannot direct Kejriwal to resign due to his arrest, it is up to him to decide. However, Kejriwal will remain in jail as he is currently in the custody of the CBI in the excise policy case.

Kejriwal will not be released even after bail

But even after getting bail, Kejriwal will not be released from jail yet. He has got bail only in the ED case. He will have to remain in jail in the CBI case. The CBI had arrested Kejriwal a few days ago.

ED arrested him on 21 March in a money laundering case

Chief Minister Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in the money laundering case. He was granted bail in the case on June 20 by a lower court on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. However, the ED moved the Delhi High Court the next day and argued that the lower court’s order granting bail to Kejriwal was unilateral and wrong. After this, the High Court stayed the bail order.
