Arrested in Abu Dhabi, extradition to India… CBI takes help from NIA to arrest wanted terrorist Tarsem Singh

Wanted terrorist Tarsem Singh Sandhu arrested: The CBI has arrested wanted Khalistani terrorist Tarsem Singh in connection with the RPG attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali and other terror cases. The CBI worked in collaboration with the NIA for this task. Interpol had issued a Red Corner Notice against Tarsem. The NIA team brought the terrorist back to India from Abu Dhabi through a security mission and he was arrested by the CBI when he reached Delhi on Friday morning.

On the request of NIA, CBI had issued a red notice against wanted terrorist Tarsem Singh on November 13, 2023 by asking Interpol General Secretariat. A CBI spokesperson told PTI that this red notice was issued for his terrorist crimes and financing of terrorist activities, for which he was wanted. The red notice was circulated to all Interpol member countries for the location and arrest of the accused.

CBI officials said Tarsem Singh is the brother of designated terrorist Lakhbir Landa. He is a prominent member of the Babbar Khalistan International (BKI) terrorist organisation and an important terror node of designated terrorists Harvinder Sandhu alias Rinda and Lakhbir Singh alias Landa in the UAE. Apart from other cases, he was also wanted in the RPG attack on a Punjab Police office in Mohali in May 2022.

He was initially arrested in Abu Dhabi in November 2023 by Interpol under a Red Corner Notice and was extradited on Friday. Terrorist Tarsem Singh was actively involved in arranging and providing terror funds to associates of Harvinder Sandhu alias Rinda and Lakhbir Singh alias Landa present in India. It is alleged that Tarsem Singh also helped in channelization of terror funds through multiple routes.

He was booked by the NIA on August 20, 2022, in connection with the terror activities of heads/members of banned terrorist organisations like Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), BKI and International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF), who have created a large network of terror operatives across India.

A CBI official said that these organisations are working through members/operators of terrorist organisations and organised criminal gangs to smuggle arms, ammunition, explosives, IEDs across the border. NIA’s investigation so far has revealed that they are using drug trafficking, extortion, hawala business to raise funds to carry out terrorist activities on Indian soil.
