Babuta was at one point in a position to win the silver medal after the first 11 shots, but he played the 13th (9.9), 15th (10.2) and 18th (10.1) shots wrongly, which put Babuta out of the medal race. Actually, Arjun Babuta, born in a middle-class family, is from Jalalabad area of ​​Punjab. His village is adjacent to the India-Pakistan border. He completed his primary education in his hometown and later moved to Chandigarh with his family as his father worked in the Indian Railways. Arjun Babuta studied BA Honors from DAV College, Chandigarh.

Arjun Babuta was interested in shooting, but initially he had no knowledge about this sport. Arjun along with his father Neeraj Babuta reached Chandigarh to seek advice from Indian Olympic shooter Abhinav Bindra. During this time in 2013, he met Bindra’s coach Colonel JS Dhillon. Dhillon suggested Arjun to join rifle shooting. After the suggestion of coach Dhillon, Arjun started training for the 10 meter air rifle category. Arjun won his first medal in the Chandigarh State Shooting Championship in 2013.

National coach Deepali improved Arjun’s game

After this, Arjun further improved his performance and won many medals at the junior level. In 2015, Arjun entered the national shooting team and trained under national coach Deepali Deshpande. He used to spend 10 hours every day practicing to hone his shooting skills. In 2016, he was selected for the Junior National Rifle Shooting Team and this became his platform for international tournaments.

During the shooting competition in Czech Republic in 2016, he managed to get his best score of 632.4 points in the qualifying game. This boosted his confidence and he regularly scored more than 620 points several times. In 2018, he was troubled by back pain and other health problems. But he continued to play the domestic circuit. He managed to win a bronze medal in the Khelo India tournament. In 2022, Arjun made a strong comeback by winning consecutive medals in the world tournament.
