Anti Romeo Squad will be active again in UP, CM Yogi gave instructions

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed to re-activate anti-Romeo squad teams for the safety of women in the month of Sawan. CM Yogi, who reached Ambedkar Nagar, has also ordered to display the list of top 10 criminals of the district in police stations.

During his one-day visit to Ambedkar Nagar after a two-day visit to Ayodhya, the Chief Minister held a review meeting on development works and law and order in the district. CM Yogi stressed the need to maintain a fear-free environment and said that the safety of women should be paramount.

Anti Romeo Squad was formed in 2017

CM Yogi had announced the formation of Anti Romeo Squad after becoming the Chief Minister for the first time in 2017. Its purpose was to stop molestation of girls outside schools and colleges across the state. The responsibility of the squad was given to the Zonal IG. The DGP gave instructions to the SP of every district and special squads were formed in every police station.

Women police have also been included in the Anti Romeo Squad. The team catches the miscreants who tease and comment on women and girl students. If any miscreant is caught harassing or misbehaving with any woman or girl, the team will immediately take him into custody. After that, he will be taken to the police station for counselling and his family will be informed about it. After this, his name is recorded in the police station register.

Yogi held a meeting with BJP leaders

According to news agency PTI, CM Yogi also held a meeting with BJP leaders and public representatives in Ambedkar Nagar. Actually, by-election is to be held on Ambedkar Nagar seat. SP MLA Lalji Verma has been elected MP from here, after which this seat has become vacant. The CM told BJP officials that the upcoming elections are a contest between the development agenda of the BJP and the destructive propaganda of the opposition.

Yogi Adityanath spoke about the opposition’s strategy of dividing the society on the basis of caste and spreading false rumours. He said, “The opposition may use social media and other platforms to mislead the public during the by-elections.”

To counter this, the Chief Minister urged BJP officials and representatives to actively engage with the community and dispel the opposition’s misinformation from every platform. He said that party officials and public representatives should go among the public and communicate with them. Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, Minister in-charge of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Girish Chandra Yadav, former MP Ritesh Pandey and Legislative Council member Padmasen Chaudhary were present in this meeting.
