Rail traffic on the down line was disrupted due to the derailment of the coach. Railway officials had said that there was no loss of life in this incident.

18 coaches of Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed

Apart from this, on Tuesday itself, two people were killed and 20 others were injured when at least 18 coaches of the Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred at around 3:45 am near Barabambu, about 80 km from Jamshedpur under the Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway (SER).

The official had said that the Railways has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family of each person killed in the train accident in Jharkhand and Rs 5 lakh each to those seriously injured.

Mamta had criticized the central government

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday criticised the central government over a series of train accidents and questioned whether the Centre’s insensitivity will have no end. In a social media post, Mamata asked what kind of governance is this as train accidents have become common.

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, she had said, “Another devastating train accident. The Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed in Jharkhand’s Chakradharpur division this morning, tragically resulting in the loss of several lives and injuries to a large number of people.” Mamata said, “I seriously ask: is this governance? This series of nightmares almost every week, this endless series of deaths and injuries on railway tracks: how long will we tolerate this? Will there be no end to the insensitivity of the Government of India?”
