In an emotional speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention, Anne Funder blamed President Biden and Vice President Harris for the fentanyl poisoning death of her 15-year-old son Weston in 2022. Funder, who recently moved to the East Coast to be closer to family after her son’s passing, delivered a powerful message to the convention audience.
“This was not an overdose, it was a poisoning,” Funder stated, explaining that Weston had taken drugs that someone else had given him in a moment of peer pressure. She directly accused the Biden administration of failing to secure the border and stop the flow of deadly fentanyl into the United States.

“I hold Biden and Harris responsible for the death of my son and the deaths of so many other young people,” Funder declared, her voice breaking with emotion. She called on voters to elect Republicans who will take strong action against the fentanyl crisis and the drug cartels responsible for the poisoning of American youth.
Funder’s speech came on the heels of a lineup of notable Republican speakers, including Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott of Florida, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The convention has been marked by enthusiasm and energy as the party rallies behind former President Trump’s nomination and his selection of Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his running mate.
