Anger over vandalism in Kolkata hospital, FORDA again announces strike

The case of rape and murder of a lady doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital has not been settled yet and meanwhile news of vandalism in the hospital has come to light. Resident doctors of the medical college have alleged that the hospital administration is tampering with evidence. They shared a video and said – the seminar hall has been vandalized.

FORDA again announced strike
Let us tell you that even before this FORDA (Federation of Resident Doctors Association) had called for a strike, the effect of which was seen in hospitals across the country, but after the violence and vandalism that took place in RG Kar Hospital on Wednesday night, FORDA has again decided to go on strike. FORDA has said that the government is not able to ensure the safety of health workers during work. Both the central and state governments have failed in this matter, which we strongly condemn.

It is a big failure of the government that it is not able to give due respect to our commitments and service. FORDA said that, given the seriousness of the recent developments and the demand for justice, we have decided to resume the strike with immediate effect. For this, we are working with the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) and other stakeholders.

In fact, on August 9, the body of a 31-year-old female resident doctor was recovered from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Blood was flowing from many parts of the body. The neck bone was also broken. It was revealed that the trainee doctor was raped and then murdered. The police investigated the case and arrested the accused named Sanjay. Sanjay is in 14-day police custody. However, the anger of the doctors has not subsided and they are on strike. When the case reached the High Court 5 days after the incident, the court handed over the investigation of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Currently, a CBI team has reached Kolkata.

According to the police, about 40 miscreants disguised as protesters entered the hospital premises, damaged property and pelted stones at the police personnel present there. The police had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. The police said that these miscreants had come with sticks, bricks and rods. The miscreants destroyed several CCTV cameras in and around the area and also vandalised the stage where junior doctors were sitting on protest and strike. In the incident, a police vehicle overturned and several two-wheelers parked there were also damaged. Some police officers have been injured. The hospital staff has started cleaning the damaged emergency ward.
